Welcome

You have decisions to make this summer. As Euro 2008 fades into the background and the Beijing Olympics looms large on the horizon, you find yourself with a WHOLE MONTH without a major sporting occasion. So what will you do in July?

We already know some of your habits: the results of last month’s Active survey are in and they make for interesting reading… it seems home is where the heart is for most of you: the Lake District was your favourite feature (87 per cent liked it) and more than half of you (53 per cent) want to see UK destinations covered more. In which case, check out our in-depth on Scotland’s Southern Highlands and Islands (page 68) this month, as well as the sail-tastic feature on Cowes Week (page 44). The vast majority of you liked our cover (87 per cent) and almost all of you (93 per cent) found the mix of the magazine just right, but you do want more on different and unusual sports, so turn to page 28 for a trip in a glider, and find out how to kayak in white water (page 65) or get started in horse riding (page 40). The majority (64 per cent) of you take two or more short-haul breaks per year: multi-activity Malta (page 50) and gorge-ous Ardèche should be right up your street.
But we do want to know more, that’s why we’re keeping the survey going on goactivemag.com, so get online and spill the beans – see page 20 for more details. A fantastic trip to Chamonix is still up for grabs. We look forward to hearing from you!
